In darkest times we become frustrated with events as they rise. War is one such thing that causes such frustration. In times of "War" we see a rise in patriotism. We feel a rise in need to understand the things that have lead to this "War".
The Pandemic is a War. Covid19 is a war. There are numerous articles that anyone can find on the internet that lead one to feel like this really is a war. We have had political leaders even use the terminology that this is a "War" that we are going to win. Although, economically, the idea that this is a War may not always be accurate, but referring to it as such can teach us some things. (COVID-19: What real wars do (and don’t) teach us about the economic impact of the pandemic)
What it doesn't teach us is also important. The human toll of having to stay locked up in your home and not being able to do those things you once did can lead to depression, anger, sorrow, and in some cases even suicide. As states are slowly opening, then there is the fear of what happens if Covid19 starts to increase. It is a fear that many have as no one wants to die. However, it is a fear that is also tainted by the feelings of having to be strong even when we do not feel we can be.
People still have to be able to afford to eat. Those that must get to the pharmacy still need to have a way to pay for their prescriptions. This is just a fact of life. Some states and even some countries took the path of not closing down. They saw an increase of Covid19 infected individuals rise rapidly. These areas now are seeing less than a handful of deaths each day and are now looking at being the strongest and fastest in recovering from a pandemic that has been described as a battle that must be one. This only leads one to understand that this is truly a war.
There is hope in these times though. Getting outdoors. Taking a walk, a hike, fishing on a river, or kayaking have all become more normal. There are people that haven't fished in years or even kayaked before that are now doing so. They are realizing the benefits of being outside has allowed them to feel stronger, healthier, and more at peace with the events going on in the World and with this Pandemic.
Fishing knows no racism. Walking and enjoying trails through a forest know no racism. Being outdoors and living like men and women just enjoying the sky, the campgrounds, the pure pleasure of catching a catfish, are enjoying what God gave us. He gave us an Earth that is not only meant to be enjoyed but to be protected. This is what we must do. We must protect "Mother Nature" in all her glory because it is her that will one day allow us to understand that we are not a planet of multiple races, but of only one race. The human race!!
Carry your mask with you if you cant social distance! It is about equality and it is about respect. Just go outside and live. Enjoy those things that are meant for all of us to view and to protect. Jog, Walk, Fish, Camp, Hike, Bike, you name it, just get outside and do it. It will help you live during a pandemic so you will come out on the other end stronger. In enjoying "Mother Nature" there is no racism and we are all truly one.
